三乙醇胺本身是一種水溶性防銹劑。單獨(dú)使用它在短期內(nèi)可有效防止鋼鐵生銹,一般使用濃度為0.5%～2%。三乙醇胺與苯乙醇胺、苯甲酸鈉、硼砂、碳酸鈉等水溶性防銹劑有協(xié)同防銹作用,復(fù)合使用可顯著提高水基切削液防銹能力。但三乙醇胺對銅有腐蝕作用,添加0.05%～0.1%的苯并三氮唑能改善對銅的防腐性。油酸三乙醇胺也是一種防銹劑,它適用于黑色金屬、鋁合金的防銹。
